Overview

Due to continued growth, our Energy Group is seeking a part-time Subject Matter Expert (SME) Senior/Principal Pipeline Design Engineer.

 

ENERCON’s Energy Group (EG) provides engineering design support to industrial facilities, traditional power generation facilities (natural gas, steam, and hydro turbines), as well as alternative, renewable, and sustainable power generation facilities (solar, wind, and hydrogen).  EG focuses on green energy solutions that achieve large-scale production with minimal environmental impacts.

Responsibilities

  • Design, prepare, and/or review engineering deliverables for pipeline projects, including but not limited to proposals, studies, project scopes, engineering estimates, calculations, drawings, specifications, bid evaluations, and technical reviews
  • Provide guidance and oversee technical work performed by others to maintain quality standards. Review and check products prepared by other engineers or subcontractors
  • Mentor and coach junior-level employees, and support group growth plans
  • Contribute to or lead project teams located in various offices
  • Project development and execution for a variety of engineering projects
  • Maintain budget, scope, schedule, and quality associated with the designated projects with minimal guidance and technical oversight
  • Apply technical principles, theories, standards, and concepts, and make recommendations based on knowledge and experience
  • Work with a multidisciplinary team, interface with staff engineers and client teams
  • Travel and participate in field installation, checkout, and start-up
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Petroleum, or other related engineering degree, and 7 or more years of experience in the design of pipeline systems
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license in one or more states
  • Advanced knowledge of applicable industry and regulatory codes and standards pertaining to the power industry
  • Proficient in typical office software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and Outlook
  • Good writing, presentation, and communication skills
  • Ability to learn discipline-specific tools and software
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 25% of the time
  • Ability to wear Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE) while at client sites

 

Significant experience and familiarity with:

 

  • Design and construction of natural gas pipeline transmission and distribution systems
  • Compliance with pipeline regulatory agency requirements (PMSHA, FERC, etc.)
  • Applicable pipeline industry codes and standards
  • Interface with natural gas utilities/providers
  • Hazard identification (class location, High Consequence Area determinations)
  • Pipeline risk assessments, blast risk, probability models
  • Zoning and permitting support
  • Route planning and traffic crossings
  • Stream & wetland delineation
  • Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) design
  • Public relations/policy and Emergency Response (ER) planning
  • Pipeline materials and equipment specifications
  • Pipeline facility design and upgrades (pump/compressor stations, isolation, metering/regulating (M&R) stations, heating, pigging stations, etc.)
  • Buried piping design and Pipe Stress Analysis (PSA)
  • Hydraulic modeling
  • Pipeline monitoring/telemetry systems
  • Testing of new and existing pipelines and facilities
  • Inspection/Integrity Assessments
  • Leak Detection/Repair (LDAR) and Operability
  • Failure Investigation
  • Capital, operating, and maintenance cost estimating
  • Operating and Maintenance Procedures

 

Preferred Qualifications/Skills

 

  • Completion of PMSHA pipeline safety training
  • Current PE license in one or more states
  • Experience with fuel supply networks used in utilities, power facilities, and major equipment/systems
  • Experience in piping design, high energy piping, pipe stress, piping codes, and software
  • Experience with new greenfield or brownfield facility projects, facility expansions, and/or major facility uprates
  • Experience with gas treating facilities
  • Experience with liquified natural gas (LNG) facilities
