Our Substation Group is leading the charge in overcoming the challenges of the energy transition. With the rise of smart home devices, electric vehicles, battery energy storage, and increased adoption of distributed renewable generation, the power grid is entering a new era. Our team is tackling this shift head-on—characterized by multi-directional power flow, advanced data acquisition, and evolving load management strategies that are reshaping how electricity is distributed and utilized.

Due to continued growth, our Power Delivery group is seeking a Substation Physical Engineer the following office location:

  • Spring, TX (Suburb of Houston)

Responsibilities

Our engineers have the opportunity to collaborate with interdisciplinary partners, coordinate with diverse engineering teams and ensure project success. A typical day may include developing design studies, preparing engineering calculations and analysis, attending project meetings, performing a walkdown or mentoring junior employees. We help you apply your skills to exciting and important projects. You will also need to:

 

  • Engineering Design & Analysis: Applying basic technical principles, theories, standards, and concepts in order to put together engineering design packages. Reading and understanding design drawings and technical specifications to support the preparation of project deliverables such as calculations, specifications, and engineering evaluations. Ability to learn discipline-specific computer analysis codes
  • Codes, Standards & Regulations: Gaining familiarity with and application of industry codes and government regulations
  • Project Quality & Management: Participate in quality assurance and quality control programs. Contribute to engineering project scheduling and budget management
  • Team Collaboration & Communication: Working on a multidisciplinary team. Interfacing with other staff engineers as well as engineers working for our clients
  • Field Experience: Conducting site walkdowns at different clients’ sites

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil/Structural, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited school
  • Typically requires 3+ years of experience for mid-level, and 6+ years of experience for senior levels
  • Proficient with preparing calculations
  • Experience in 15kV through 138kV substation design and IEEE/ANSI standards. Experience in 138kV+ is a plus
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite
  • SolidWorks or AutoCAD experience a plus
  • Experience in 3D printing a plus
  • Excellent writing, presentation, and communication skills
  • Ability to be an individual contributor and work effectively in teams
  • Ability to travel between 15-25% of the time; duration of travel may vary depending on project and client needs

  • If a salary range is listed, it reflects the typical range for this full-time position based on the role, level, and location. Individual compensation within the range will be determined by factors such as work location, relevant experience, job-related skills, and education or training.
