Overview

Our Advanced Nuclear Service Group is looking for a Startup Testing Engineer to join the team. As a Startup Testing Engineer, you will define, develop, and lead the preoperational and startup testing roadmap of a nuclear power plant. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering, operations, and safety teams to create thorough testing specifications, procedures, and schedules. Your work ensures the plant starts up safely, reliably, and in compliance with all regulatory and design requirements.

 

This exciting position offers flexibility by being remote. The role can be PT or LTLB. Travel to client sites is required as needed.

Responsibilities

In this role, you shape the foundation of safe and successful operations by guiding complex systems from concept to reality through thoughtful planning, testing, and collaboration. Each day, your leadership and technical insight help ensure that critical infrastructure is brought online with confidence, precision, and purpose.

 

  • Testing Program Planning & Development: Develop a comprehensive Preoperational and Startup Testing Roadmap, including test phases, milestones, resource requirements, and success criteria. Write clear, detailed test specifications and procedures for systems and subsystems (mechanical, electrical, control, safety systems, instrumentation, etc.)
  • Team Leadership & Coordination: Lead a cross-functional team during testing program development by coordinating personnel, assigning tasks, and ensuring execution aligns with the roadmap and schedule. Mentor and train other engineers assigned to testing tasks (as applicable)
  • Regulatory Compliance & Standards: Ensure all proposed testing activities comply with applicable nuclear industry standards, codes, and regulatory requirements. Support the development and continuous improvement of startup testing procedures, standards, and best practices
  • Program Oversight & Reporting: Provide input on testing program development progress, risks, resource needs, and schedule forecasts

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in commissioning, startup, testing, or operations support of power plants, preferably nuclear, or in a highly regulated power/energy environment
  • Strong understanding of nuclear power plant systems (mechanical, electrical, control/instrumentation, safety systems) and how these systems are commissioned and tested
  • Demonstrated experience in developing test plans, procedures, and documentation, and in leading test execution and commissioning phases
  • Familiarity with project management practices: scheduling, resource planning, documentation control, and cross-functional coordination
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills, able to identify issues, assess risks, and implement corrective actions effectively
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to produce clear procedural documents, reports, and coordinate with diverse stakeholders (engineering, safety, operations, regulatory)
  • Ability to lead and motivate a team of engineers
  • Attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining quality and safety standards

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline
  • Previous experience specifically with nuclear plant commissioning/startup or nuclear regulatory compliance
  • Professional certification/licensure (e.g., Professional Engineer (PE), or equivalent)
  • Experience with project management tools and technical documentation systems (e.g., MS Project, P6, document control systems)
  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulatory frameworks applicable to nuclear power plants
  • Experience mentoring or training junior engineers or technicians
  • Familiarity with safety culture, QA/QC practices, and regulatory audits or inspections

Pay Range

USD $50.00 - USD $95.00 /Hr.

Salary Range Information:

  • If a salary range is listed, it reflects the typical range for this full-time position based on the role, level, and location. Individual compensation within the range will be determined by factors such as work location, relevant experience, job-related skills, and education or training.
